Technical specifications of high duty cables and connectors for electric vehicles

1 Scope

This standard specifies the general requirements, electrical performance, physical performance, environmental adaptability, electromagnetic shielding effect, test methods and inspection rules for high-voltage connection systems consisting of high duty cables and connectors for electric vehicles.

This standard is applicable to high-voltage connection systems for electric vehicles that comply with Class B voltage specified in GB/T 18384.3-2015.

Note: refer to this standard for the part of the connection system used to conduct Class non-B voltage circuits.

This standard is not applicable to connection set of conductive charging for electric vehicles.

3 Terms and definitions

For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB/T 18384.3-2015, GB 19596 and GB/T 20234.1 and the following apply.

3.1
high voltage cable
a combination of one or more high voltage cables used to conduct a Class B voltage circuit

3.2
high voltage connector
a component having one or more sets of conductor terminals for connection and separation functions between high voltage cables of electric vehicles, and between high voltage cables and high voltage components

3.3
high voltage connection system
a connecting device consisting of a high voltage cable and a high voltage connector and conducting a Class B voltage circuit between high voltage components of an electric vehicle

Note: high-voltage connection systems may also include auxiliary components such as bellows, heat-shrink tubing, fixtures, guard tubes (grooves).

4 General requirements

4.1 Appearance

4.1.1 The appearance of the high-voltage connection system shall be clearly and firmly marked with basic information about products.

4.1.2 The marking of the high-voltage connection system shall comply with the requirements of Clause 5 of GB/T 18384.3-2015.

4.1.3 The accessible surface of the high voltage connection system shall be free of burrs, flashes and similar sharp edges.

4.1.4 The high-voltage connection system shall be free of defects such as damage and deformation.

4.2 Structure

4.2.1 The basic protection of personnel against electric shock from the high-voltage connection system shall meet the requirements of Sub-clause 6.2 of GB/T 18384.3-2015.

4.2.2 When the connection is normal, the protection grade of the high-voltage connection system shall meet the IPXXD. If the high-voltage connection system can be manually disconnected without tools, the protection grade of each part of the non-connected high-voltage connection system shall meet IPXXB.

4.2.3 As for high-voltage connection system with high-voltage interlock function, the power terminal and signal/control terminal of the system shall meet the following conditions:

——when the high voltage connection system is connected, the power terminal is turned on first, and the signal/control terminal is turned on later;

——when the high voltage connection system is disconnected, the signal/control terminal is disconnected first, and the power terminal is disconnected later.

4.2.4 The connection position of the cable crimping, screw connection, welding, etc. of the high-voltage connection system shall be free of connection defects such as looseness and breakage.

4.2.5 If the high voltage connection system has a shielding layer, it shall have a groundable structure.

4.3 Working environment

4.3.1 The temperature of the working environment of the high-voltage connection system shall meet those specified in Table 1.

a When the high-voltage connection system is connected to parts of different temperature environments, it shall meet the relevant requirements of the more severe temperature level.

b If the product is subject to thermal insulation in use position , the temperature scope can be negotiated.

4.3.2 The high-voltage connection system shall meet the working environment requirements of relative humidity of 5% to 95%.

4.3.3 The high-voltage connection system shall meet the vibration environment requirements of the connected high-voltage components.

4.4 Parts in the system

In high-voltage connection systems, some requirements for high-voltage connectors are given in Annex A, while some requirements for high-voltage cables are given in Annex B.

5 Electrical performance

5.1 Voltage resistance

The voltage of voltage resistance test shall be withstand between the conductors, between the conductor and the outer casing, between the conductor and the shielding layer in the high voltage connection system, without dielectric breakdown or arcing.

5.2 Insulation resistance

The insulation resistance between the conductors, between the conductor and the outer casing, and between the conductor and the shielding layer in the high voltage connection system shall not be less than 100 MΩ.

6 Physical performance

6.1 Temperature rise

When the high-voltage connection system is working normally, the temperature rise of each point of the system shall not exceed 55 K.
