Analysis of the core content of the standard

This standard is applicable to medium manganese steel plates specially used for offshore platforms with a thickness range of 20mm to 150mm, which are delivered in three process states: TMCP+tempering, online quenching+tempering or offline quenching+tempering.


Characteristics of the brand system

The four-segment coding of "Q+strength value+ZM+quality grade" is adopted:

  • Q690ZME: medium manganese steel with yield strength of 690MPa, grade E quality
  • Z-direction performance extension: such as Q690ZMEZ35 means additional Z35-level thickness direction performance

Key points of engineering application

Welding process control

Based on the stringent requirement of Pcm≤0.44%, it is recommended that:

  1. Preheating temperature ≥100℃ (for plate thickness 50mm)
  2. Use low-hydrogen welding materials
  3. Dehydrogenation treatment after welding

Key points of quality acceptance

  • Ultrasonic testing shall be carried out in accordance with GB/T2970, and 100% testing is required for Z-direction steel
  • Thickness direction performance Z35 grade requirements ψz average value ≥35%
  • Surface defect depth ≤ half of thickness tolerance

Background of standard evolution

This standard is designed for the harsh service environment (corrosion + dynamic load) of offshore platforms. It improves low-temperature toughness while ensuring strength through the Mn-C-Al alloy system design. Compared with traditional high-strength steel, the welding cold crack sensitivity index of medium manganese steel is reduced by 15%-20%.
