Introduction

Interpretation of the core content of the standard

This standard establishes complete technical specifications for the key links of moxa for moxibustion, such as raw materials, processing technology, quality grading, etc., for the first time, mainly including:

  • Raw material requirements: Limited to the use of dried leaves of Artemisia argyi of the Asteraceae family, which must be stored for ≥1 year
  • Processing ratio: The ratio of raw materials to finished products is not less than 3:1 (3kg of wormwood leaves are used to make 1kg of moxa)
  • Quality grading: According to indicators such as powder content and fluffiness, it is divided into Grade I (for direct moxibustion) and Grade II (for moxibustion with moxa sticks)

Quality Control of Mugwort Smoke

The standard innovatively introduces the indicators of Similarity of Mugwort Smoke Fingerprint (≥80%) and Tar Content (≤45mg/g), through:

  3. Isopropyl alcohol extraction-water subtraction method to calculate tar amount

Production Process Recommendations

In order to meet the requirements of Class I standards, it is recommended to:

  • Use three-year-old mugwort leaves as raw materials
  • Multiple air separations to remove stem impurities
  • Low-temperature and low-speed crushing process to control dust content

Technical Evolution of Standards
