Introduction
Core changes in the standard revision
| Revision dimensions | 2015 version | 2021 version | Technical impact |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grade system | IC-Au prefix | Au direct identification | In line with international standards |
| Purity level | 4 grades | New Au99.90 (3#) | Broaden the scope of industrial applications |
| Impurity control | 13 restricted elements | reduced to 8 core elements | optimized detection efficiency |
Analysis of key technical requirements
1. Chemical composition control
The new standard divides gold ingots into 5 grades, among which Au99.995 requires the total impurity content ≤0.005%, and the limit values of key elements such as lead and bismuth are accurate to 0.0003%. Special provisions are made for three situations of impurity reduction method:
- When the detection value of listed elements is lower than the lower limit of the method, the reduction shall be based on the lower limit of the method
- When the detection value of unrestricted elements is lower than the lower limit, the reduction shall not be included
- The detection lower limit of new elements shall not be higher than 0.0005%
2. Adjustment of physical specifications
The size tolerance of the trapezoidal structure of 12.5kg gold ingot is relaxed to ±10mm, the mass deviation is allowed to be +500/-0g, and the 3kg ingot is allowed to have a cutting cut. Specific specifications are shown in the table below:
| Specifications (kg) | Length (mm) | Width (mm) | Mass deviation (g) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 115±3 | 53±3 | +0.05/-0.03 |
| 3 | 320±5 | 70±5 | ±50 |
Implementation Suggestions
1. Selection of Detection Methods
For Au99.995 and other high purity gold ingots, it is recommended to use the GB/T11066.1~11066.9 series of methods combined testing, please note:
- Arbitration analysis must adopt the drilling sampling method specified in the standard (see Appendix A for details)
- Quality test results are uniformly rounded to 0.01g
2. Packaging and transportation specifications
The new standard clarifies the packing requirements of different specifications:
- 1kg ingots 25 pieces/box, polyethylene box thickness ≥5mm
- 12.5kg ingots 2 pieces/box, solid wood or thickened polyethylene box is required
Background of standard evolution
This revision (the fourth time) mainly responds to three major needs:
1) Connecting with the spot trading specifications of the Shanghai Gold Exchange
2) Simplify the impurity control indicators of industrial gold ingots
3) Optimize the testing process to reduce enterprise costs
