Background of Standard Revision and Analysis of Technical Evolution
GB/T 4392—2019 replaces the long-standing GB/T4392—1995, and comprehensively revises the technical requirements for tap wrenches and tap ring wrenches. This revision is based on the new needs of industry development and introduces stricter quality control measures and technical specifications, especially in terms of product dimensions, material properties and safety testing.
With the rapid development of the machinery industry, the technical requirements of the tool industry are also constantly improving. The new version of the standard further improves the reliability and durability of the product by adding more specifications, optimizing basic dimensions and introducing impact strength tests.

Material and hardness requirements
According to the standard, the percussion wrench should be made of high-quality carbon structural steel that meets GB/T699 or materials with equivalent performance. The hardness requirements are divided into two levels:For products with specifications ≤46mm, the hardness should be in the range of 34HRC~40HRC; while for products with specifications >46mm, the hardness is 30HRC~36HRC.

For example, when selecting the material of the box wrench, the manufacturer should ensure that it meets the requirements of GB/T699. By optimizing the heat treatment process, the durability and impact resistance of the product can be significantly improved.
Appearance and surface treatment
- The surface should be blackened or otherwise treated to prevent rust, with uniform color and no obvious spots or exposed bottom.
- The surface roughness Ra of the two sides of the opening of the open wrench is not greater than 12.5 μm.
- The surface roughness Ra of the inner surface of the hole of the plum wrench is not greater than 25 μm.
Impact strength test
According to the standard requirements, the percussion wrench needs to pass the impact strength test. The specific method includes installing three wrenches of the same type on a hexagonal test bar and using a falling weight of a specific mass for impact testing to ensure that the product has no cracks, bending or slippage.
