Introduction

Background of Standard Revision and Technological Evolution

GB/T 4776-2017, as the basic terminology standard in the field of electrical safety, replaced the 2008 version and achieved three major technological breakthroughs:

Dimensions2008 version2017 version
Total number of terms142 items129 items
New terms-10 items such as electric shock protection
Deleted terms-23 items such as protection relay

Analysis of core safety concepts

2.1.3 Electric shock

Define the physiological effect caused by electric current passing through a living organism. The degree of danger depends on:

  • Current threshold: sensing current (0.5-1mA) → getting rid of current (10-16mA) → ventricular fibrillation (50mA)
  • Duration: exceeding the heart cycle (about 1s) will significantly increase the risk

2.1.38 Protection level (IP code)

Adopt the IPXX identification system:

Code positionProtection objectTypical level
First positionSolid foreign matterLevel 6 (completely dustproof)
Second positionLiquid intrusionLevel 8 (continuous submersion)

Comparison of key safety measures

2.3.1 Classification of protection systems

System typeGrounding characteristicsTypical applications
TN systemEquipment housing connected to neutral lineCivil power distribution system
TT systemIndependent grounding deviceRural power grid
IT systemUngrounded neutral pointSpecial places such as mines

2.3.3.1 Classification of equipment for protection against electric shock

  • Class 0 equipment: Only basic insulation, no grounding measures (gradually eliminated)
  • Class II equipment: Double insulation/reinforced insulation, no need for grounding

Recommendations for the implementation of the standard

  1. Term application: Technical documents must strictly adopt the terms defined in this standard. For example, "electric shock protection" must not be written as "protection against electric shock"
  2. Equipment selection: Prioritize Class II or Class III equipment
  3. Training focus: Strengthen the teaching of easily confused concepts such as "indirect contact (2.1.17)"
