Introduction

1. Standard Overview

GB/T 5588—2017 Technical Conditions for Silver-Nickel and Silver-Iron Electrical Contacts is a product standard for sheet-shaped silver-nickel and silver-iron electrical contacts produced by powder metallurgy, and is mainly used in low-voltage electrical fields such as contactors, relays and electrical switches.

2. Standard Framework Comparison

Chapter 2017 Edition Content 2002 Edition Differences
3.1 Surface Quality Added specific restrictions on inclusions and burrs. No clear requirements for inclusion size.
3.4 Metallographic Structure Added metallographic inspection requirements for extruded electrical contacts. Does not involve the inspection of extruded products.
5.3 Sampling Rules Reduces the number of samples and optimizes the inspection process. Maintains a high sampling ratio.

3. Interpretation of the core content of the standard

Comparison of chemical composition and mechanical properties

Table 1 lists the chemical composition and mechanical and physical properties of silver-nickel and silver-iron electrical contacts in detail, as shown below:

Product Name Representative Symbol Chemical Composition (mass fraction, %) Density (g/cm³) Mechanical and Physical Properties (Hardness HV) Resistivity (μΩ·cm)
Silver Nickel Iron Soft HB HV Hard HB HV
Silver Nickel(5) AgNi(5) 95±1 5±1 - 10.07~10.42 40 43 65 68 1.95

4. Implementation Suggestions

Case Study: Optimization of Chemical Composition Determination Process

In actual production, the determination of silver content is extremely important. According to the method described in Appendix A, the nitric acid decomposition and potassium thiocyanate titration method can be used to accurately measure the silver content. This method is simple to operate and has high accuracy.
