Introduction

1. Standard background and technical evolution analysis

GB/T5687.4-2016 is a method for determining the nitrogen content in nitrided ferrochrome and high-nitrogen ferrochrome, replacing the original GB/T5687.4-1985. The new standard has made important adjustments in terms of determination range, reagent preparation and sample decomposition method.

Main Technical Changes

  • Expanded the determination range of high nitrogen ferrochrome (>7.00%~12.00%)
  • Optimized the preparation and calibration methods of aminosulfonic acid standard titration solution
  • Adjusted the sample particle size requirements to distinguish between easily breakable and non-breakable samples
  • Improved the distillation device and added a waste liquid bottle

3.1 Laboratory preparation

  • Ensure that the laboratory is equipped with a distillation-neutralization titration device, including a steam generator, a condenser and a waste liquid bottle
  • Configure the required analytical reagents, especially the aminosulfonic acid standard titration solution, which must be accurately calibrated
  • Operators should receive professional training and be familiar with the use of the equipment and safety precautions

3.2 Sample Processing Recommendations

  • Choose an appropriate decomposition method based on the characteristics of the sample (easily soluble vs. insoluble)
  • Accurately weigh the sample to ensure that it meets quality requirements
  • Record the various parameters of the distillation process (such as temperature and time) to trace the result deviation

3.3 Data Processing and Reporting

  • Pay attention to unit conversion and the number of decimal places when calculating nitrogen content
  • Record the blank test value to ensure the accuracy of the result
  • The analysis result should retain three significant digits and indicate the allowable difference range
