Introduction
1. Scope of application of the standard
GB/T 6836-2018 standard applies to polyester sewing thread, carded cotton sewing thread and combed cotton sewing thread, and specifies terms and definitions, requirements, test methods, acceptance rules and packaging labels.
2. Background of standard formulation and analysis of technical evolution
This standard replaces GB/T6836-2007. The main technical changes include:
- The scope and term definitions have been modified, and terms such as hemp thread and spider web have been added.
- Technical indicators such as single-line breaking strength and breaking strength variation coefficient have been adjusted.
- The requirements for wet rubbing color fastness and the allowable deviation rate of length have been improved.
- The test method for sewing thread length has been supplemented, and the breaking strength calculation formula has been added (see Appendix A).

4. Implementation Suggestions
4.1 Quality Control
It is recommended that enterprises strictly follow the standard requirements during the production process, focus on key indicators such as breaking strength, color fastness and length deviation, and ensure product quality through regular calibration of equipment and training of personnel.
4.2 Inspection Method
The test method should comply with relevant standards such as GB/T 3916 and GB/T 3920, and pay special attention to the following points:
- The determination of breaking strength and coefficient of variation shall use the CRE method.
- The color fastness test adopts the single fiber lining method (C method).
- The length measurement shall be carried out according to the GB/T 4743-2009 procedure.
4.3 Packaging and Transportation
Packaging should comply with the requirements of GB/T 4856 and avoid being affected by moisture and high temperature. It should be tightly covered during transportation to ensure the safe arrival of the product.
