Key technology updates

Main revisions to the 2024 version of the standard:

  • New Safety warning clause to clarify experimental safety responsibilities
  • Optimize the preparation parameters of silica standard solution (the volumetric flask is adjusted from 200mL to 1000mL)
  • Correct the flame type of Ca/Mg elements in the atomic absorption method to air-acetylene flame
  • Improve the order of adding flux (borax-sodium carbonate mixed flux)

Typical application cases

Case 1: A company used ICP-OES to determine the Fe2O3 content in corundum powder. By adding matrix-matched Al2O3 solution (10 mg/mL), the matrix interference was effectively eliminated, and the RSD was <1.5%.

Case 2: The laboratory compared the new and old standards to determine TiO2. The linear range of the new working curve was extended to 0.005%-5.0%, and the detection limit was reduced by 40%.


Implementation recommendations

  1. Sample pretreatment needs to be strictly controlled at 205-215℃ for sealed digestion for 8-10 hours
  2. For ICP-OES analysis, it is recommended to use the axial observation mode to improve sensitivity
  3. The boiling time of potassium fluoride substitution reaction in complexometric titration needs to be controlled to 2-3 minutes
  4. Regularly verify instrument performance, and it is recommended to calibrate with GBW standard materials every month
