Introduction

Standard Evolution and Scope of Application

GB/T9771.3-2020, as the third part of the series of standards for single-mode optical fibers for communications, replaces the 2008 version of the standard and focuses on standardizing the characteristics of non-dispersion-shifted single-mode optical fibers with extended wavelength bands (B1.3 class D subclass). This standard is applicable to communication optical cables and information transmission equipment, especially for DWDM system applications in the extended wavelength band of 1360nm to 1530nm.

Comparative Analysis of Core Parameters

Technical Indicators Requirements of 2008 Edition Main Changes of 2020 Edition
Coating Diameter 245±10μm New 200/500μm specifications, 200μm concentricity error ≤10μm
Attenuation Coefficient Grading Requirements Cancel grading, add 1625nm indicator (≤0.28dB/km)
Dispersion Characteristics Segmented calculation formula New zero dispersion slope, 1550nm lower limit and 1625nm range
Mechanical properties Gauge length 1m/10m/20m Only 0.5m gauge length is retained, and the screening stress is increased to ≥0.69GPa

Detailed explanation of key technical requirements

Transmission characteristics

In the 1310nm window, the attenuation coefficient is required to be ≤0.38dB/km, and the 1550nm window is strictly required to be ≤0.24dB/km. The new attenuation uniformity indicator requires a fluctuation of ≤0.05dB/km over a length of 2000m. The dispersion coefficient is calculated using an improved three-stage model:

  • 1260-1460nm: based on Sellmeier trinomial fitting
  • 1460-1625nm: linear fitting formula 8.625+0.052(λ-1460)≤D(λ)≤12.472+0.068(λ-1460)

Mechanical reliability

The corresponding tension value of the screening test is adjusted to 8.8N (about 1% strain), and the dynamic fatigue parameter nd≥20. Requirements after environmental testing:

  • After 30 days of 85℃/85%RH humidity and heat, the additional attenuation at 1625nm is ≤0.05dB/km
  • Peak force peak is maintained in the range of 1.0-8.9N

Implementation suggestions

FTTH applications:It is recommended to use 200μm coated optical fiber, and attention should be paid to the adaptability of the splicing tools. The macrobending performance must meet the 1625nm loss of ≤0.1dB at a radius of 30mm and 100 turns.

Long-haul trunk lines:Focus on the PMD coefficient (PMDQ≤0.20ps/km½) and the longitudinal uniformity of dispersion to avoid the four-wave mixing effect in the DWDM system.
