Scope

This standard specifies the requirements for decorative and protective nickel electrodeposited coatings on steel, zinc alloys, copper and copper alloys, aluminum and aluminum alloys, and the requirements for copper-nickel electroplated coatings on steel and zinc alloys. The identification of different thicknesses and types of coatings is given, as well as the guidelines for the selection of coatings for coated parts exposed to corresponding service conditions. This standard does not specify the surface state of the base metal before electroplating. This standard does not apply to the coating on unformed plates, strips, and wires, nor does it apply to the coating on threaded fasteners or dense coil springs. GB/T 9797 specifies the requirements for nickel + chromium, copper + nickel + chromium plating on metal substrates. GB/T 12600 specifies the requirements for nickel + chromium, copper + nickel + chromium plating on plastics. GB/T 12332 and GB/T 11379 specify the requirements for engineering nickel and chromium electroplating respectively.
