Introduction

Analysis of core requirements of the standard

GH/T 1283-2020 has formulated quality control standards for the entire industry chain for lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus). The main technical indicators include:

Test items Indicator requirements Test methods International benchmarking
Volatile oil content ≥1.5mL/100g GB/T 30385 ISO 6571
Moisture content ≤12.0% ISO 939 AOAC 934.06
Total ash ≤3.5% ISO 928 USP 281

Details of key technical indicators

4.1 Sensory quality control

The standard requires that lemongrass must maintain a typical fresh aroma, and the odor characteristics are judged by rubbing test. In actual applications, Thai exporters often use a sensory panel of more than 3 people for blind evaluation.

4.4 Chemical index analysis

Volatile oil detection adopts steam distillation method, which is consistent with ISO 6571. The practice in Vietnam production area shows that harvest time can affect the volatile oil content by up to 30%. It is recommended to harvest in the morning after the dew has dried up.

Suggestions for the implementation of the standard

1. Supply chain control: A company in Yunnan reduced the moisture content from 8.3% to 2.1% by establishing a origin traceability system.

2. Detection optimization: It is recommended to equip a portable moisture meter for rapid screening before storage, which can reduce laboratory testing costs by 50%.

3. International trade: The difference between this standard and Codex STAN 326-2017 is mainly reflected in the ash content index (Codex requires ≤4.0%).

Background of standard evolution

This standard replaces the 2008 version of the industry specification. The main revisions include: Additional crude fiber detection (according to GB/T 5498), tightening the requirements for foreign matter (from ≤1% to no detection), improving storage terms (clarifying that the stacking distance is ≥0.8m).
