Introduction

Technical background of the standard

This standard is formulated for industrial by-products produced by the limestone/lime-gypsum wet flue gas desulfurization process. For the first time, it systematically regulates the chemical analysis method of flue gas desulfurization gypsum with dihydrate calcium sulfate (CaSO4·2H2O) as the main component. With the improvement of environmental protection requirements, the 2018 version has added new pollutant detection items such as total organic carbon and ammonia nitrogen.

Key points for carbonate determination

When using the acid-base titration method with a double end-point indicator (Taslow indicator), special attention should be paid to the following:

  • The reaction temperature should be controlled within the range of 50-70℃
  • The amount of hydrogen peroxide added should be accurate to 5 drops (about 0.25mL)
  • Repeatability limit 0.20%, reproducibility limit 0.30%

Innovation in ammonia determination

Use pre-distillation-Nessler reagent spectrophotometry combined technology:

Actual case: In the detection of desulfurization gypsum in a power plant, it was found that when the sample contained 0.5mg/kg ammonia, strict control was required:

  1. Distillation rate 10mL/min
  2. The pH value of the distillate was adjusted to 11.0±0.1
  3. Use newly prepared boric acid absorption liquid

Standard implementation recommendations

Laboratory configuration requirements

  • The balance room needs to maintain constant temperature and humidity (23±2℃)
  • At least equipped with a 0.0001g precision analytical balance
  • The wavelength range of the UV spectrophotometer should cover 200-800nm

Quality Control Measures

It is recommended to use standard substances (such as NIST SRM 88b) for method validation, with special attention to:

  • Make two parallel samples for each batch of samples
  • Control the drying temperature at 45±3℃
  • when determining the crystal water
  • Blank correction is required for the determination of the endpoint of chloride ion titration
