1 Scope

This standard specifies the technical requirements, test method, packaging, marking, storage and transportation of micro-dose X-ray security inspection system for civil aviation (hereinafter referred to as security inspection system).

This standard is applicable to the selection, acceptance and use of security inspection system used by safety inspection departments of civil airports and airlines.

2 Normative references

The following normative documents contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this standard. For dated references, subsequent amendments (excluding corrections), or revisions, of any of these publications do not apply to this standard. However, parties to agreements based on this standard are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the normative documents indicated below. For undated references, the latest edition applies.

3 Terms and definitions

For the purpose of this standard, the following terms and definitions apply.

3.1
wire display
capacity of micro-dose X-ray security inspection system (3.13) to differentiate single solid tinned copper wire

Note: The wire display is generally expressed by the nominal diameter of the wire (in mm) and the wire size (AWG).

3.2
useful penetration
capacity of micro-dose X-ray security inspection system (3.13) to differentiate the thinnest single solid tinned copper wire under the aluminum alloy ladder with specified thickness

Note: The useful penetration is generally expressed by the nominal diameter of wire (in mm) and the wire size (AWG).
3.3
simple penetration
capacity of rays to penetrate irradiated objects

Note: The simple penetration is generally expressed by the thickness (in mm) of steel plate.

3.4
throughput rate
quantity of the objects with a length of 1 m which inspected by micro-dose X-ray security inspection system (3.13) within one hour

3.5
organic/inorganic differentiation
capacity of micro-dose X-ray security inspection system (3.13) to differentiate organic material and inorganic material

3.6
gray level differentiation
capacity of micro-dose X-ray security inspection system (3.13) to differentiate the inspected objects with the same materials but different thickness

Note: The gray level differentiation is generally expressed by the steps number of aluminum alloy ladder.

3.7
useful organic differentiation
capacity of micro-dose X-ray security inspection system (3.13) to differentiate the different organic material with equivalent atomic number after the rays have penetrated the steel ladder

3.8
spatial resolution
capacity of micro-dose X-ray security inspection system (3.13) to differentiate metal wire pairs

Note: The spatial resolution is generally expressed by the nominal diameter of the wire (in mm).

3.9
absorption dose
X-ray energy absorbed by a substance after receiving one irradiation

Note 1: The unit of absorbed dose is gray (Gy), 1 Gy = 1 J/kg.

3.10
leakage radiation rate
ionizing radiation passing through radiation shield and reaching the exterior of micro-dose X-ray security inspection system (3.13) in unit time

Note: The unit of leakage radiation rate is Gy/h.

3.11
thin organic differentiation
capacity of micro-dose X-ray security inspection system (3.13) to display the images of thin organic material

3.12
X-ray security inspection system
security inspection system for identifying objects through the X-ray images of inspected objects which generated by measuring the intensity or spectral energy distribution of the X-ray penetrating the objects under inspection or the scattered X-ray

3.13
micro-dose X-ray security inspection system
X-ray security inspection system (3.12) with absorption dose less than 5 μGy

3.14
multi-energy X-ray security inspection system
micro-dose X-ray security inspection system (3.13) used for identifying and giving image of the material characteristics of object under inspection according to the rule that substances with the different atomic numbers have the different characteristics for the absorption of X-ray energy spectrum
