Introduction

Technical Background of the Standard

This standard, as a supporting technical document for CCAR-91, establishes unified specifications for the periodic inspection of Flight Data Recorder (FDR) and Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR). The 2015 version mainly updates the inspection parameter thresholds of digital recorders and adjusts the error frame rate detection standard from the original 5% to a dual control of 3% basic threshold + 5% instantaneous threshold.

Core Inspection Requirements

Inspection Items Flight Data Recorder Cockpit Voice Recorder
Inspection Period ≤24 months or as per MMEL requirements ≤24 months or as per MMEL requirements
Continuous Recording Time ≥25h(Transport Category)/10h(General Category) ≥2h(Transport Category)/30min(General Category)
Key Indicators Frame Error Rate≤3%(≤5% within 1h) Voice channel intelligibility 100%

Parameter verification implementation points

Mandatory parameter inspection case

Take the B737NG model as an example, the 16 core parameters in Appendix B must be verified:

  1. Pressure altitude (error ≤75ft)
  2. Indicated airspeed (error ≤5kt or 5%)
  3. Pitch attitude (error ≤2°)
  4. Engine thrust parameters (EPR/N1 deviation ≤3%)

Common failure mode handling

When Underwater Locator Beacon (ULB)When the battery fails or the recorder housing seal does not meet the standard, the 72-hour emergency replacement procedure should be initiated according to the requirements of AC-121-65. In 2018, a certain airline's A320 model was restricted from operation by the authority due to non-conformity due to failure to replace the failed ULB in time.

Standard Evolution Analysis

Compared with the 2009 version, the 2015 version mainly strengthens:

  • Added QAR data comparison requirements
  • Cleared the inspection standards for data link information (DL)
  • Detailed the version management specifications for the decoding database
