Introduction

Background of Standard Evolution

NB/SH/T 0011-2020 replaces the 1990 version of the standard (7903 Grease). The main technical changes include: 20% tightening of evaporation loss index, adding SH/T 0967 high temperature performance test method, and adjusting the thickener ratio range to 16-24%. This standard is under the jurisdiction of the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Petroleum Products and Lubricants (SAC/TC280/SC5).

Analysis of key test methods

5.1 Cone penetration test

Using the standard method of GB/T 269, after the sample is kept at a constant temperature of 25℃±0.5℃, a standard cone is used to measure the sinking depth within 5 seconds. The 2020 version adds the shear stability requirement (cone penetration change ≤15% after 100,000 shears).

5.4 Evaporation loss test

According to the provisions of SH/T 0229, place 2g of sample in a 120℃±1℃ oven for 22 hours, and the mass loss must be ≤2.0%. The accuracy requirement is increased by 0.5% compared with the 1990 version.


Typical application cases

Refinery valve seals: A petrochemical enterprise uses 7903 grease that complies with the NB/SH/T 0011-2020 standard. At 120℃ and 3MPa, the seal life is increased from 6 months to 18 months.

Implementation suggestions

  1. Oil resistance verification needs to be combined with the SH/T 0452 rubber compatibility test
  2. Bearing life test should be additionally carried out under high temperature conditions (refer to NB/SH/T 0967)
  3. During the transition period between the new and old standards, it is necessary to pay attention to the difference in evaporation loss indicators
