Introduction

Technical Background of the Standard

NB/SH/T 0906-2015 replaces the earlier version and establishes a standardized test method for the deposit formation characteristics of engine oil under high temperature conditions. This standard is derived from the technical requirements of the API base oil interchangeability criteria and reflects the latest research progress in China on high temperature stability of lubricating oil in 2015.

Core Test Methods

Parameters Requirements International Comparison
Test Temperature 300±2℃ Similar to ASTM D7097
Air Flow Rate 10±0.1 L/h ISO 0.5mm/s Equivalent
Test Pressure 90-110 kPa Difference to JIS K2514

Deposition Rating System

The standard adopts heat pipe color scale and sediment weight method for dual evaluation:

  1. Visual colorimetry: Use standard colorimetric card according to clause 6.2
  2. Gravimetric analysis: Clause 8.7 stipulates that sediment ≤90mg is qualified

Implementation Recommendations

Laboratories need to pay special attention to the pressure control requirements of Clause 6.5. It is recommended that:

  • Use a calibrated digital pressure gauge
  • Check the system airtightness before each batch of tests
  • Regularly calibrate the heat pipe reactor according to Clause 10.1
