Scope

This standard applies to surge protectors with short-circuit protection (SPDI for short). SPDI refers to an electrical appliance that contains a voltage-limiting non-linear component used to limit voltage and dis harge surge current, and is combined with a short-circuit protection function to form an integrated device. SPDI has the function of protecting indirect lightning and direct lightning effects or other transient overvoltage surges. It also has the ability to interrupt the system fault power frequency current generated by the short-circuit failure of its internal voltage-limiting non-linear components. SPDI can be connected to circuits and equipment with an AC rated voltage not exceeding 440V (rms), 50/60Hz. The purpose of this standard is to specify the characteris ics, standard test methods and ratings of SPDI. a) The SPDI in this standard only belongs to the voltage-limited surge protector of Class II test. b) This standard only applies to SPDis whose design principles of built-in short-circuit protection function are similar to those of circuit breakers that comply with GB 10963.1-2005. For the built-in short-circuit protection function part, its design principle is similar to that of fuses or other SPDis similar to protection devices. c) For multi-pole SPDI, if it includes a surge protector (SPD) module that can only be connected between N-PE, this SPD module should comply with GB 18802.1-2011.
