1 Scope

This part specifies the instruments and equipment, specimen preparation, determination steps and processing of determination data of viscosity (i.e. apparent viscosity) and pot life of composite solid propellant slurry using method by rotational viscometer.

This part is applicable to the determination of viscosity and pot life of composite solid propellant slurry using method by rotational viscometer.

2 Determination principle

This method follows Newton's law of viscosity using coaxial cylinder measuring head system of rotational viscometer. The rotor rotates at a certain shear rate in the slurry to be tested at a certain temperature, and the corresponding shear stress is measured, so as to obtain the viscosity of the slurry.

According to the viscosity values of the slurry measured at different times, the pot life of the slurry is obtained by plotting method.

3 Instruments and equipment

Rotational viscometer, with coaxial cylinder measuring head system. See Figure 1 for the schematic diagram of coaxial cylinder measuring head system. The measuring range is 10Pa·s~5,000Pa·s, the temperature control range is 10℃~80℃, and the temperature control accuracy is ±0.5℃. It shall be used within the pot life. See Annex A for calibration method.
