1. Multi-source satellite data fusion

The standard requires the use of visible light (0.58-0.68μm), shortwave infrared (1.58-1.64μm), and mid-infrared (3.5-4.0μm) channel data from satellites such as FY-3/MODIS/NOAA, and joint identification through NDST (Normalized Difference Snow Cover Index) and NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index).


2. Fog Identification Algorithm System

  • Reflectivity Threshold: Clear sky land Rvis≤0.25, vegetation area ≤0.2
  • Brightness temperature difference criterion: Land fog ΔT11-12≤6K, sea fog ΔT≤8K (winter)
  • Spectral characteristics: Must meet the dual conditions of NDST and NDVI

Recommendations for standard implementation

Typical application scenarios

In the application of FY-4A satellite data, special attention should be paid to the correction of the monthly average sea temperature (Tanw) of the 3.5-4.0μm channel. When the fog top brightness temperature T11>298K, the night fog recognition algorithm should be activated.

Technical evolution direction

The new generation of VIIRS instruments has added a 1.37-1.39μm water vapor channel, which can improve the accuracy of mist recognition by 15%
