Introduction

Interpretation of the core content of the standard

Sea ice monitoring products are defined as standardized data products obtained through satellite sensors such as the Visible Infrared Scanning Radiometer (VIRR) and the Medium Resolution Spectroradiometer (MERSI), which include seven key parameters such as sea ice area, coverage, and thickness.

Key Technical Requirements

Product Type Data Requirements Accuracy Index Typical Sensors
Sea Ice Distribution Map RGB Color Value Specifications Positioning Deviation ≤ 1 Pixel FY-3/MERSI
Sea Ice Thickness Map Thickness Grading and Coloring 5cm Grading EOS/MODIS
Ice Edge Map Pure Blue Marker 0.0025° Grid GF-1/WFV

Satellite Sensor Parameter Comparison

Core Difference: The domestically produced FY-4A/AGRI achieves a resolution of 4000m in the far-infrared channel (13.2-13.8μm), which is better than the 1100m resolution of the NOAA series of satellites.

Implementation Recommendations

  1. Data Source Selection: Polar region monitoring should prioritize the use of polar-orbiting satellite data from FY-3/VIRR, with a temporal resolution of 6 hours.
  2. Projection Conversion: The Arctic region must use the polar stereographic projection, with an error control within ±0.1°.
  3. Quality Control: Establish a spectral signature library for sea ice, sea water, clouds, and snow to avoid classification confusion.

Standard Evolution Analysis

This standard unifies the sea ice monitoring specifications for 12 types of satellite sensors at home and abroad for the first time, resolving the confusion of independent development by various institutions before 2013. Newly added GF-5/VIMS data after 2020 must refer to the parameters in Appendix J for expanded application.
