This standard, serving as a supporting implementation specification for GB/T 20479-2006, establishes for the first time a quantitative indicator system for assessing the frequent occurrence of sandstorms in northern my country. This standard innovatively introduces the PM10/PM2.5 concentration ratio parameter, resolving the confusion between dust and haze in traditional observations.

Key Technical Indicators

Visibility Determination: Visibility is measured using a transmissive visibility meter, which must meet the Class I accuracy standard of GB/T 36542-2018. A typical example is the 2021 Beijing sandstorm, when visibility dropped to 800 meters and wind speeds reached 6.2m/s, triggering a sandstorm warning. Particulate matter monitoring: Beta-ray or oscillating balance monitoring equipment must be used to ensure a PM10 data resolution of ≤1 hour. Data from the Taklamakan Desert Observatory in Xinjiang shows that PM10 concentrations can reach over 2000 μg/m³ during sandstorms.
