Scope

1.1 This standard specifies the method for the determination of polychlorinated biphenyl content in non-halogenated insulating oil, using a high-resolution capillary gas chromatograph with an electron capture detector (ECD). 1.2 This standard is applicable to the determination of the total content of polychlorinated biphenyl (hereinafter referred to as PCB) in insulating oil, and is especially suitable for the detailed analysis of PCB homologues. When detailed analysis of homologues is not required, other methods can also be used, such as IEC60997 1.3 This standard applies to PCBs in unused, regenerated (including dechlorinated, chemically/physically treated) and used insulating oils determination. 1.4 The application of this standard may involve certain hazardous materials, operations and equipment, but it does not make recommendations on all safety issues related to this.
