Introduction
Technical background and scope of application of the standard
This standard was first published in 2020. In response to the quality control needs in the production process of polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) resins, a method system for the determination of six key trace elements using inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometer was established. Applicable to powdered and granular resins and their copolymers/blends, the detection range covers:
| Element | Detection Range (mg/kg) | Characteristic Wavelength (nm) |
|---|---|---|
| Magnesium (Mg) | 0.10-50.00 | 279.553 |
| Aluminum (Al) | 0.20-100.00 | 396.153 |
| Calcium (Ca) | 0.40-130.00 | 317.933 |
Method principle and technical points
The pre-treatment process of dry ash-acid digestion is adopted: 25g of sample is weighed and ashed in a muffle furnace at 750℃, and the residue is dissolved in nitric acid solution. After constant volume, it is determined by ICP-OES. Key technical parameters include:
Typical application case
The detection of a certain brand of polypropylene resin shows that the aluminum content is 32.27mg/kg, the relative standard deviation is 1.49%, and the repeatability limit of 4.22mg/kg meets the standard requirements.
Instrument configuration requirements
| Equipment type | Technical indicators | Remarks |
|---|---|---|
| ICP-OES | Wavelength range 160-760nm | Recommended power 1.4kW |
| Analytical balance | Accuracy 0.1mg | Regular calibration required |
| Quartz beaker | 250mL | Diameter 70mm is best |
Precision verification data
Verified by 8 laboratories, the precision of different concentration levels is as follows (taking aluminum as an example):
| Concentration range (mg/kg) | Repeatability limit (r) | Reproducibility limit (R) |
|---|---|---|
| 6.78-11.33 | 0.30-2.05 | 3.18-3.28 |
| 18.57-99.05 | 0.89-9.59 | 3.85-26.19 |
Implementation Recommendations
- Safety protection: nitric acid treatment must be carried out in a fume hood, and protective equipment must be worn
- Quality control: blank solution and standard substances must be included in each batch of tests
- Equipment maintenance: clean the nebulizer regularly and check the position of the torch
- Result verification: abnormal data should be confirmed by repeated measurements or spike recovery
