1 Scope

This specification specifies the material selection and design for steel column (hereinafter referred to as "column") in the petrochemical engineering as well as the design requirements for manufacture, inspection and acceptance.
This specification is applicable to the design for the skirt-supported column, whose design pressure is not greater than 35MPa, height is higher than 10m and height-diameter ratio is greater than 5.
Note: The column diameter refers to the nominal diameter of the column; as for the unequal-diameter column, its diameter shall be the weighted mean value, see Formula (1).

D——the diameter of column body;
H——the height of column;
D1, D2…Di——the nominal diameter of each section in the column body;
h1, h2…hi——the height of each section in the column body.
This specification is not applicable to the design for the following columns:
a) Column with drafting device;
b) Nonmetallic lined column;
c) Row column and column group integrated by operation platform;
d) Column with jacket.

3 Terms and Definitions

For the purposes of this specification, the terms and definitions specified in GB 150 and JB/T 4710 apply.

4 Design Base

4.1 Design Pressure
4.1.1 Where the design pressure of the column is specially specified in the process system profession or engineering design documents, it shall be determined according to the requirements but shall not be less than those specified in Article 4.1.2 and Article 4.1.3.
4.1.2 The determination principle of the design pressure shall be in accordance with those specified in Table 1.
