Technical Background of the Standard
This standard was developed to address the need for antibody testing for Wesselsbron disease virus (Flaviviridae). Result Criteria
The following criteria must be met for determination: The blank control wells should show a typical button-shaped precipitate, and the antigen control wells should show complete agglutination. A serum titer ≥1:40 is considered positive; a titer of 1:20 requires retesting.
- Complete inhibition: Red blood cells are concentrated into dots (-)
- Partial inhibition: 50% agglutination (±)
- No inhibition: Uniform spreading (+)

Implementation Recommendations
- Goose erythrocytes should be prepared and used immediately and stored for no more than 72 hours
- A positive and negative serum control should be performed simultaneously with each batch of testing
- The titer of 4HAU antigen should be verified on the same day
- Suspicious samples are recommended to be retested by ELISA
