Introduction

Standard Overview and Technical Background

SN/T 4902-2017 is a Chinese industry standard for entry-exit inspection and quarantine, developed to address the testing requirements for nine phthalates in cosmetics. With increasingly stringent restrictions on plasticizers under international standards such as the EU REACH regulation, this standard provides key technical support for the quality and safety of imported and exported cosmetics.

Core Detection Methods

1. Sample Pretreatment

Two extraction schemes were used according to the differences in product matrices:

Product Type Extraction Solvent Cleanup Method
Conventional Cosmetics n-Hexane 0.22μm Membrane Filtration
Lipstick/Nail Polish Ethyl Acetate-Cyclohexane (1+1) GPC Cleanup + Rotary Evaporation

2. GC-MS analysis conditions

Chromatographic column DB-5MS (30m×0.25mm×0.25μm)
Temperature program 60℃(0min)→20℃/min→220℃→5℃/min→280℃(3min)→20℃/min→300℃(1min)
Ionization mode EI source, 70eV

Key performance indicators

Method detection limit

The method detection limit of all targets is 2.0 mg/kg, which meets the requirements of EU No 10/2011 and other regulations.

Recovery Data

Compound Spike Level (mg/kg) Recovery Range (%)
DBP 2.0 83.5-100
DEHP 8.0 80.9-99.7

Implementation Recommendations

Laboratory Considerations

  1. All glassware must be baked at 200°C for 2 hours to eliminate background interference.
  2. SIM mode is recommended to improve sensitivity.
  3. Each batch of samples should be accompanied by a blank test and spike recovery.

Standard application scenario

This method is particularly suitable for detecting the risk of plasticizer migration in high-fat matrix products such as lipstick and nail polish. GPC cleanup can effectively remove matrix interference.
