Introduction
Technical background of the standard
This standard was formulated by the General Administration of Customs to meet the regulatory needs for aromatics content in imported and exported petrochemical products, filling the gap in the standard for aromatics detection in light petroleum fractions in my country. The technical method was established with reference to international standards such as ASTM D5580 and combined with the optimization of domestic laboratory conditions.

Key operating points
Preparation of calibration standards: They need to be weighed in order of volatility from low to high, with a typical ratio of 25% n-heptane + 15% benzene + 20% toluene + 20% xylene + 10% methylethylbenzene + 10% tetramethylbenzene. After preparation, they need to be refrigerated at 0-5℃.
Relative correction factor verification: The gradient relationship of Fbenzene(0.909)<Ftoluene(0.919)<Fxylene(0.927)<Fmethylethylbenzene(0.933)<Ftetramethylbenzene(0.938)<Fn-heptane(1.000) must be satisfied. If the deviation exceeds 5%, recalibration is required.
Implementation recommendations
- Laboratories should regularly verify the sensitivity of flame ionization detector (FID) to ensure that the signal-to-noise ratio of 0.01% benzene is ≥5
- For complex samples, it is recommended to use gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) to assist in qualitative analysis
- When analyzing C11+ aromatics, attention should be paid to the applicability of the correction factor and an extended calibration curve should be established when necessary
Technology evolution analysis
Compared with GB/T 30519-2014, the innovations of this standard include: ① The use of electronic pressure control (EPC) system to improve reproducibility; ② Clarify the attribution rules of each C6-C10 component; ③ Add precision data from collaborative tests of 8 laboratories. In the future, it may develop in the direction of fast GC and two-dimensional GC.
