Introduction
Technical background and significance of the standard
With the improvement of safety requirements for food machinery lubrication, SN/T 5308-2021 has established a special detection method for the benzene series residual risk in food-grade lubricants. The standard adopts headspace gas chromatography-mass spectrometry technology, with a detection limit of 0.1 mg/kg, covering 5 typical aromatic hydrocarbon compounds.
Analysis of core methods
| Technical elements | Parameter setting | Scientific basis |
|---|---|---|
| Pretreatment | Dissolve in n-hexane +85℃ headspace equilibrium for 30min | Achieve matrix separation and avoid interference from lubricating oil matrix |
| Chromatographic conditions | VOCOL column (60m×0.32mm), programmed temperature 50-220℃ | Ensure complete separation of the five compounds (R>1.5) |
| Mass spectrometry conditions | EI source 70eV, SIM mode acquisition | Improve detection sensitivity and reduce background interference |
Key operating points
Actual application case: In the detection of lubricants in a certain imported food machinery, the toluene recovery rate was increased from 82% to 98% by controlling the equilibrium temperature of the headspace bottle at 85±1℃. The standard requires the use of a polytetrafluoroethylene membrane silicone rubber pad headspace bottle, which can effectively prevent the sealing pad from adsorbing the target at high temperature.
Method validation data
Six laboratories validated that: at the addition level of 0.5-5 mg/kg, the repeatability limit (r) of benzene was 0.06-0.11 mg/kg, and the reproducibility limit (R) was 0.08-0.16 mg/kg (see Table 1 for details). The RSD of o-xylene at 5 mg/kg level is <5%, which proves the robustness of the method.
Implementation Recommendations
- Standard solutions should be re-prepared monthly and their linearity verified (r²≥0.995)
- It is recommended to add m-xylene as a process monitoring compound
- Regularly calibrate the transfer line temperature of the autoheadspace sampler
