Introduction

Standard Background and Scope of Application

SN/T 5461-2022 was issued by the General Administration of Customs. It specifies the technical specifications for cold treatment of six types of fruits, including nectarines, peaches, and plums, before export, targeting the spotted-wing drosophila (Drosophila suzukii), a pest with a high risk of cross-border transmission. The standard integrates the technical requirements of GB/T 30134 Cold Storage Management Specifications and SN/T 4862 Guidelines for the Treatment of Fruit Fly Pests.

Technical requirements of core equipment

Equipment type Accuracy requirements Quantity configuration
Temperature probe ±0.15℃ 2+ for storage temperature, 4+ for fruit temperature
Temperature recorder Automatic recording every hour Multi-channel
Refrigeration system Maintain -3~+3℃ With air circulation

Key operating procedures

  1. Pre-cooling stage: the difference between storage temperature and processing temperature must be ≤0.28℃ before the fruit can be moved in
  2. Probe layout:
    • Storage temperature monitoring points: air outlet + return air outlet
    • Fruit temperature monitoring points: 4 key locations such as cargo center/corner/return air outlet
  3. Time calculation: the processing time will be accumulated only after all probes meet the standards

Australian export case

According to the requirements of the bilateral protocol, nectarines exported to Australia must meet the following composite indicators:
1.38℃ for 18 days or 0.99℃ for 15 days, which is more stringent than the general standard.

Implementation suggestions

Main points for quality control

  • The probe needs to be calibrated with ice-water mixture (see Appendix A)
  • Single probe failure during processing ≤ 4 hours
  • Cargo stacking ≥ 0.2m away from the wall and does not block the air outlet

Document management

The following should be saved: original temperature record data, equipment calibration records, cargo in and out records, etc., with a preservation period of not less than 1 year.
