1 General provisions

1.0.1 This standard is formulated with a view to ensuring the quality of external coatings for steel tank to extend its service life.

1.0.2 This standard is applicable to the design, application and acceptance of the external coating for the above-ground tank with storage medium temperature not exceeding 60℃ and no thermal insulation layer, the external coating under thermal insulation layer of the thermal insulation tank below 100℃, and the external coating for the tank used in caves. This standard may be used as a reference for other steel structures, pipelines and corresponding supporting facilities.

1.0.3 In addition to this standard (code or regulation), the design, application and acceptance of the coatings for tank shall also comply with the requirements of the current relevant standards of China.
 
2 Coating material

2.0.1 The coating material used shall have the product quality certificate, test report and other product quality certification documents, and its quality shall meet the requirements of this standard, and the qualities not specified in this standard shall meet the requirements of the current relevant standards of China.

2.0.2 For the tank with storage medium temperature not exceeding 60℃ and no thermal insulation layer, the main types of coating materials for external anticorrosion include: acrylic polyurethane, cross-linked fluorocarbon, polysiloxane, chloric ether, chlorinated rubber, high chlorinated polyethylene, and the matching intermediate paint and primer paint (such as epoxy coating material, epoxy zinc-rich coating material, inorganic zinc-rich coating material, etc.).

2.0.3 The main types of coating materials that may be selected for anticorrosion under the thermal insulation layer of the thermal insulation tank with a storage medium temperature lower than 100℃ include: solvent-free epoxy coating material and phenolic modified epoxy coating material.

2.0.4 The main types of materials that may be selected for external coatings of the tank used in caves include: orthosilicate inorganic zinc-rich painting, moisture curing painting, etc.

2.0.5 The external coatings for tank shall meet the performance requirements for the corresponding items in Annex A, and shall have inspection reports issued by the inspection agency with metrological certification.

2.0.6 Primer paint, intermediate paint, finish paint, curing agent, diluent, etc. for coating material shall be compatible with each other and supplied by the same supplier.

2.0.7 The colors of primer paint, intermediate paint and finish paint shall be different. Except for the finish paint under the thermal insulation layer, other finish paint colors shall be selected in accordance with SY/T 0043 Code for painting colors of pipelines and equipment in oil-gas field.
