Introduction

Standard Revision Background and Technology Evolution

SY/T 5980-2020, as the core standard of the oil and gas industry, replaces the 2009 version and achieves three major technological breakthroughs: 1) Adding well control and HSE risk identification system; 2) Improving high temperature and high pressure well design parameters; 3) Introducing digital design templates. This standard responds to the technical needs of my country's shale gas, tight oil and other unconventional resource development.

Comparison of core changes

Technical dimensions 2009 version 2020 version Upgrade points
Risk control Basic well control requirements Full process risk identification (4.6/5.14 clauses) New geological factors risk matrix analysis
Design structure Three-stage discrete design Integrated collaborative design (Chapter 7) Establish a change linkage mechanism
Special working conditions Mainly conventional well design Specify the design of four types of special wells (Clause 1.3) Sulfur-containing wells require separate material selection

Guidelines for the implementation of key design elements

Core requirements for geological design

According to Clause 4.4, the production capacity forecast must include:

  • Three-phase analysis of fluid properties (oil, gas, water)
  • Calculation of formation pressure gradient (need to reference adjacent well data)
  • The perforation plan needs to be marked with the negative pressure difference range

Wellbore integrity management for engineering design

Clause 5.3 requires the establishment of a double barrier system:

  1. Primary barrier: tubing + packer combination
  2. Secondary barrier: casing + wellhead equipment
  3. Triaxial stress verification is required (safety factor of ultra-deep wells ≥1.25)

Key points for special working conditions

For hydrogen sulfide wells (H2S ≥50ppm):

  • The pipe material must meet the ISO 15156 standard
  • The ground process is equipped with a two-stage desulfurization device
  • The emergency response time is controlled within 15 minutes

Implementation suggestions and common problems

Design change management (Chapter 7): The three versions of the geological, engineering and construction design documents need to be updated simultaneously, and the change order must include:

  1. Technical justification for the reason for the change
  2. Parameter comparison table before and after the modification
  3. New risk assessment report
