Introduction

Standard Revision Background and Technology Evolution

The revised SY/T 6502-2024 standard is a comprehensive upgrade of the 2017 version. The main technical changes include: enhancement of the escape route identification system, refinement of the configuration standards for emergency communication equipment, and adjustment of the inspection cycle of life-saving equipment. This standard is coordinated with the IMO SOLAS Convention and the China Classification Society regulations, reflecting the latest developments in offshore oil operation safety technology in the past seven years.

Analysis of core technical requirements

4.1 General specifications for escape routes

Elements Requirements of the 2017 version New requirements of the 2024 version
Signage system Obvious signs must be set Explicitly require the use of light signs or fluorescent strips powered by emergency power, and stipulate that the installation height is ≤300mm
Exit door design Keep it unobstructed New mandatory requirement of "all exit doors should be easy to open outwards"

5.2 Emergency communication system upgrade

The new standard requires: Two-way VHF radio must be equipped with a dedicated main battery (Article 4.2.2), and the backup battery must have an anti-tamper seal. The broadcasting system must be automatically linked with the fire alarm system and combustible gas detection system (Article 5.2.4).

Comparison of key equipment inspection requirements

Changes in lifeboat maintenance cycle

The 2024 version changes the replacement cycle of lifeboat wire ropes from "recommended 5 years" to mandatory 5-year replacement (Article 7 of Table A.1), and adds temporary fixing requirements for typhoon evacuation (Article 6 of Table A.1).

Implementation recommendations

  1. Signage system transformation: It is recommended to complete the adjustment of the installation height of the escape route fluorescent signs during the transition period of 2024
  2. Communication equipment upgrade: It is necessary to verify whether the battery configuration of existing two-way VHF telephones complies with the new regulations
  3. Inspection plan adjustment: The preventive maintenance plan for life-saving equipment should be re-formulated in accordance with the new standards
