As an important analytical method specification for the oil and gas industry, this standard establishes a standardized process for the quantitative detection of adamantane compounds in crude oil. As a maturity indicator and oil source comparison marker, adamantane compounds have special value in the field of oil and gas exploration. Compared with the previous version, the 2020 version of the standard mainly updates the technical parameter requirements and data processing algorithms of gas chromatography-mass spectrometer.

Key points of sample preparation

Using isooctane ultrasonic extraction method, the oil sample weighing range is 10-20mg, and the centrifugal speed is 3000-5000r/min to ensure that the adamantane compounds are fully dissolved while avoiding the loss of light components by volatilization.

Instrumental analysis conditions

The chromatographic heating program adopts second-order gradient heating (initial 35-50℃, final temperature 300-320℃), and the mass spectrometry detection is recommended to use the selected ion monitoring mode (SIM) to improve the sensitivity, focusing on monitoring characteristic ions such as m/z 135, 149, and 163.


Quality Control System

The standard establishes strict quality control indicators:

  • Blank test baseline noise needs to be ≤5% of the target response value
  • Chromatographic peak separation requirement is ≥80%
  • Calculation formula for repeatability limit r: r=0.0207m+1.0069
