Scope

This standard applies to power electronic capacitors used on railway rolling stock. The rated voltage of capacitors covered by this standard is limited to 10k V. Operating frequencies of systems using such capacitors are typically below 2500Hz, while pulse frequencies can be as high as several kilohertz and in some cases over MHz. Capacitors are divided into two types: AC capacitors and DC capacitors. Capacitors in this standard are devices with a shell. Note: This standard covers a wide range of capacitor application technologies: overvoltage protection, DC and AC filters, switching circuits, DC energy storage, auxiliary converters, etc. This standard does not apply to the following capacitors:
 ——capacitors used in induction heating devices with operating frequencies between 408z and 24kHz (see IEC 60110);
 ——capacitors used in AC motors and similar ones (see IEC 60252);
 ——used in power supply networks Capacitors used in circuits for blocking one or more harmonics;
 ——small AC capacitors for tubular fluorescent lamps and other discharge lamps (see IEC 61048 or IEC 61049);
 ——capacitors for suppressing electromagnetic interference (see IEC 60384 -14);
 ——Parallel capacitors for AC power systems with rated voltages above 1kV (see IEC6 0871-1, IB C6 0871-2);
 ——Self-healing parallel power capacitors for AC systems with rated voltages 1kV and below (see IEC 60831 -1, IB C6 0831-2);
 ——Non-self-healing parallel power capacitors for AC systems with rated voltages of 1kV and below (see IEC 60931-1, IEC 60931-2);
 ——Electronic capacitors not used in main circuits ( (see IEC 60080 and IEC 60166);
 ——series capacitors for power systems (see IEC 60143);
 ——combined capacitors and capacitive voltage dividers (see IEC 60358);
 ——for applications requiring energy storage/high current discharge [such as photographic reproduction and Capacitors for lasers;
 ——Capacitors for microwave ovens. Examples are given in Chapter 6.
