Introduction

Analysis of the core content of the standard

This standard specifies three key technologies for welding stainless steel for EMUs:

  • Resistance spot welding: The minimum welding spot spacing specification is shown in Appendix A
  • Gas shielded arc welding: The welding materials must comply with ISO 14343
  • Stud welding: The process assessment is carried out in accordance with ISO 14555

Implementation points

Typical application cases

When resistance spot welding the side wall panels of a certain type of EMU, CrCu electrodes were used with pure argon protection, and the distance between welds was controlled at 35mm (1.5mm plate thickness). The ISO 14270 peel test verified that the weld strength was increased by 15%.


Analysis of Standard Evolution

Compared with the old version of the standard, the 2016 version has the following major updates:

  1. Added stud welding process qualification requirements (Appendix E)
  2. Refine the interlayer temperature control indicators of gas shielded welding
  3. Clarify the allowable number of resistance spot welding repairs (≤2 times)

Quality Control Recommendations

  • Establish a welding process qualification database (WPQR)
  • Simplified work specimen verification is required before starting work every day
  • Use special stainless steel tools for post-weld cleaning
