Scope

Since January 1, 2023, the State Administration for Market Regulation's "Measures for the Supervision and Administration of Quality and Safety of Edible Agricultural Products in Markets" has been implemented. This regulation stipulates that the use of lighting facilities that significantly alter the true color and other sensory characteristics of fresh edible agricultural products should be prohibited to avoid misleading consumers about their sensory perception of the product. However, there is currently no scientific quantitative standard for judging "significant alteration of the true color and other sensory characteristics," and there are also a lack of technical requirements based on visual experiments in the industry. This has led to a situation where both government supervision and industrial production lack clear guidelines.

This document proposes lighting source color rendering technical requirements based on visual experimental data of edible agricultural product colors, providing technical basis for government regulation and norms for lamp manufacturing enterprises, ensuring consumer rights and promoting healthy industry development.

The document establishes color rendering standards for lighting sources for fresh edible agricultural products based on the true perception of food color, including illuminance E at the observed surface of the object, correlated color temperature Tcp, deviation from Planckian locus Duv, general color rendering index Ra, special color rendering index R9, CIE 1931 standard colorimetric system chromaticity coordinates (x, y), color fidelity index Rf and color gamut index Rg requirements. This document applies to lighting sources that have a requirement for accurately representing the true sensory characteristics of fresh edible agricultural products in terms of their colors.
