Scope

In recent years, with the substantial investment by the country in transportation infrastructure, the research and application of new technologies, processes, equipment, and materials have significantly promoted rapid development in tunnel construction. Numerous high-speed railway projects, expressways, hydropower stations, municipal works, urban rail transit systems have commenced construction and operation across the nation, leading to a continuous increase in both the number and length of tunnels constructed in China. Especially noteworthy are large-scale engineering experiences under complex geological conditions exemplified by the Qinling Tunnel of Xikang Railway, Gaoligong Mountain Tunnel of Dali-Ruili Railway, and Zhongnanshan Highway Tunnel of Qinling Mountains, as well as the upcoming construction of extremely long tunnels such as Zeduo Mountain Tunnel, Haxicuo Tunnel, Mila Mountain Tunnel, Zilasha Mountain Tunnel, Bashula Ridge Tunnel, Duomuge Tunnel along the Sichuan-Tibet Railway. These projects have raised higher and stricter requirements for tunnel engineering construction and quality control.

For a long time, the quality inspection of tunnel linings has mainly relied on the "Non-destructive Testing Code for Tunnel Lining Quality" (TB10223-2004). To adapt to the new needs of tunnel construction development and further improve and perfect the quality management standards system for tunnel engineering projects, the drafting team of the "Technical Specifications for Non-destructive Testing of Tunnel Lining Quality" carefully summarized practical experiences, conducted extensive investigations, referenced domestic and international relevant standards, and formulated this regulation after comprehensively adopting various opinions.

This document is divided into seven chapters with the first three chapters covering scope, normative references, terms and symbols; Chapter Four covers geological radar detection technology; Chapter Five deals with impact echo acoustic technique; Chapter Six discusses impact elastic wave strength measurement technology; while Chapter Seven outlines quantifiable indicators for tunnel lining defects. Chapters Four to Six constitute the core of this regulation.

The main framework of the core content includes: 1) application scope, technical specifications for instruments and equipment, regulations on setting up test lines and points, methods for estimating and determining detection parameters, data processing and interpretation rules, as well as qualitative and quantitative divisions of various testing indicators; 2) application range, requirements for setting up test lines and points, determination of wave velocity in impact echo acoustic technology; 3) application scope, layout requirements for inspection zones, determination of concrete compressive strength in the impact elastic wave strength measurement technique.

The implementation of this document will contribute to standardizing tunnel lining quality testing behaviors, providing a robust reference basis for such tests, and unifying technical requirements for non-destructive detection of tunnel lining quality. It also aims to better guide China's tunnel construction and inspection technology.
