Key technical points
1. Four-layer model of data elements
The standard constructs a complete conceptual system: object class (such as patient, medical institution) → characteristic (such as height, diagnosis result) → representation (value range/data type) → unit of measurement, and realizes unit conversion (such as kg and g) through dimensional management.
2. Value range management mechanism
Enumerated value range case: Blood type code uses a fixed value list (1=type A, 2=type B...), while non-enumerable value ranges such as body temperature require defined description rules (real numbers between 36.0-42.0℃).
Implementation Recommendations
- Metadata Registration System Development: Need to be compatible with ISO/IEC 11179 standard to achieve separate storage of data element concepts and representations
- Clinical Data Collection: Measurement values such as blood pressure should be recorded simultaneously with units of measurement (mmHg/kPa) and representation formats (N5,2)
- System Docking: Resolve semantic consistency issues of encodings in different value domains (such as gender codes 1/2 and M/F) through concept domain mapping
Standard Evolution Analysis
Compared with the 2009 version, the 2023 version mainly strengthens:
- Add compatibility requirements for HL7 RIM data types
- Clearly define HL7 RIM data types class=instrument>Registration status (draft/standard/repealed) life cycle management
- Supplement the extension mechanism such as positive and negative attributes unique to health statistics indicators
