Key operation process

  1. Sample preparation: 5g sample and Florisil are loaded in layers, and Soxhlet extractor is extracted with n-hexane for 4.5h
  2. Chromatographic conditions: carrier gas linear velocity 45cm/s, injection port 250℃/detector 350℃
  3. Method validation: recovery rate needs to be >95% (dieldrin validation)

Technology evolution analysis

This standard adopts the mainstream technology in 2004:

  • Pretreatment: Retain traditional Soxhlet extraction, and the current method mostly adopts accelerated solvent extraction (ASE)
  • Detection limit: 0.1μg/mL, the current instrument sensitivity can be increased by 10 times
  • Chromatographic column: DB-35 stationary phase is now mostly replaced by DB-35MS with similar polarity

Implementation Notes

A case from a testing center shows that when florisil is not sufficiently activated, the recovery rate of toxaphene will drop below 80%. Suggestions:

  1. Strictly follow clause 4.5.2 and activate at 550℃ for 5 hours
  2. Perform dieldrin recovery verification for each batch
  3. Control the ambient humidity to <40%RH
