Scope

This part of YY 0636 specifies the safety and performance requirements for manually driven suction equipment used for pharyngeal suction. This includes foot-operated, manual, or both suction devices (see Figure 1). The scope of this part of YY 0636 includes non-electric suction equipment that may be combined with electrical equipment. This part of YY 0636 does not apply to the electric suction equipment powered by mains power or battery driven discussed in YY 0636.1; nor does it apply to the suction equipment powered by negative pressure or pressure source discussed in YY 0636.3; nor does it apply to The following equipment: a) Central power systems (using negative pressure/compressed gas generating devices), vehicle and building ductwork, and wall connectors; b) Catheters, drainage tubes, scrapers and suction heads; c) Syringes; d) Dental suction equipment; e) Waste gas removal systems; f) Laboratory suction devices; g) Automatic infusion systems; h) Passive urinary devices; i) Closed systems for wound drainage; j) Gravity gastric drainage devices; k) Mucus aspirators for oral surgery; l) Suction equipment with a collection container downstream of a negative pressure pump; m) Equipment labeled suction for use in permanent tracheostomies; n) Suction cup equipment (for obstetric use); o ) Neonatal mucus aspirator; p) Breast pump; q) Fat aspirator; r) Urine aspiration; s) Chest drain.
