Key technical points of V50 test
Ballistic system construction specifications
The system must include: standard ballistic gun, velocity target array (spacing ≥1m), verification plate (300×300mm/90×110mm), and backing putty (600×600×100mm). The annual calibration of the speed measurement target requires that the system error is ≤0.3% (≥600m/s).
Judgement of mixed result area
When the highest blocking speed is greater than the lowest penetration speed:
- Difference ≤ 38m/s: adopt the six-shot evaluation method
- 38-45m/s: adopt the ten-shot evaluation method
- >45m/s: more than twelve rounds of data are required
Implementation difficulties and solutions
Bullet velocity attenuation correction
The formula is: V50 = v/(1+αx)
The attenuation coefficient α needs to be determined by:
1) Double velocity target actual measurement method (recommended)
2) Formula calculation method (projectile shape coefficient needs to be input)
Special material testing
For laminated composite materials:
- The four-round evaluation method is prohibited
- ≥6 rounds of valid data must be ensured
- Backing materials must be pre-calibrated (GA 141-2010)
