1. Overview of the standard and revision background

GB/T 12686-2017 "Glyphosate Technical Material" was issued in 2017, replacing the previous GB/T 12686-2004 version. The standard mainly stipulates the technical requirements, test methods, signs, labels, packaging, storage and transportation, and acceptance period of glyphosate technical materials.

Compared with the old version, the main technical changes of the new version of the standard include:

  • The upper limit of formaldehyde mass fraction is revised from no more than $0.8~\mathrm{g/kg}$ to no more than $1.2~\mathrm{g/kg}$
  • The analysis method of nitroso glyphosate is changed from strong anion exchange method to reversed phase liquid chromatography after derivatization reaction

These changes reflect the improvement of product quality requirements and the progress of analytical technology.

  1. High performance liquid chromatograph and spectrophotometer are key instruments for detecting glyphosate technical and need to be calibrated regularly.
  2. During the production process, it is recommended to measure the mass fraction of nitrosoglyphosate and the content of sodium hydroxide insoluble matter at least once a quarter.
  3. Enterprises should strengthen employee training to ensure that they are proficient in the test methods and safety precautions in the standard.
