GB/T 13531.6—2018 Standard Overview

GB/T 13531.6—2018 "General Test Method for Cosmetics - Determination of Particle Size (Fineness)" is an important part of the national standard, which is specifically used to guide the quality inspection of powdered and granular products in the cosmetics industry. This standard is under the jurisdiction of the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Flavors and Fragrances Cosmetics, and the participating drafting units include Shanghai Daily Chemical Industry Research Institute and many other industry-leading companies.


Background and Significance of Standard Formulation

With the rapid development of the cosmetics industry, product quality control has become particularly important. Particle size (fineness), as one of the important indicators for measuring the physical properties of cosmetics, directly affects the product's use effect and consumer experience. Therefore, formulating a unified testing method is of great significance to ensure product quality and regulate market order.


Analysis of particle size determination method

Particle size (fineness) 1. Prepare a standard sieve and a soft brush, and weigh the total mass m₀.
2. Weigh 5g of the sample, place it in the standard sieve, and weigh the total mass m₁.
3. Vibrate the standard sieve and clean it with a soft brush for at least 3 minutes.
4. Weigh the total mass of the unsieved sample again m₂.

Calculation formula X = ((m₁ - m₂) / (m₁ - m₀)) × 100 - The result is retained to 1 decimal place, and the error of parallel tests does not exceed 1.5%.

Practical application case analysis

Take a certain brand of foundation cream as an example, and determine its particle size according to the standard method. Through the weighing and sieving process, it was found that the mass of the unscreened sample decreased by 0.8g, and the fineness was calculated to be 35%. This result shows that the product meets the industry requirements, but it is recommended to further optimize the formula to improve dispersibility.
