Analysis of Standard Formulation Background and Technology Evolution

The release of GB/T 13883-2023 standard marks the further improvement of trace element detection technology in China's feed industry. Compared with the 2008 version, this revision mainly optimizes the methodology:

  • Changed the scope of application: expanded the compatibility with different types of feed raw materials.
  • Introduced microwave digestion method: improved the efficiency and accuracy of sample pretreatment.
  • Added inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS): provided a more sensitive detection method to meet the needs of trace analysis.

Hydride Generation-Atomic Fluorescence Spectrometry (Arbitration Method)

This method releases selenium in feed through acid digestion, reduces it to hydrogen selenide in a hydrochloric acid medium, and uses an atomic fluorescence spectrometer for detection. It is characterized by high sensitivity, simple operation and suitable for large-scale sample analysis.

Fluorescence spectrophotometry

This method is based on the fluorescence characteristics of the complex formed by selenium and 2,3-diaminonaphthalene. The quantitative analysis of selenium content is achieved through cyclohexane extraction and spectrophotometer measurement. It is suitable for the detection of low levels of selenium in feed raw materials.

Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry

ICP-MS has become an ideal choice for the detection of trace elements in feed with its high sensitivity and the advantages of simultaneous determination of multiple elements. The accuracy and reliability of the method are further improved by introducing internal standard elements for correction.

Implementation advice

  1. Choose a suitable method: According to the detection requirements and laboratory conditions, the arbitration method (hydride generation-atomic fluorescence spectrometry) is preferred as the standard method.
  2. Optimize sample pretreatment: Microwave digestion technology is recommended to improve efficiency and reduce human errors.
  3. Establish a quality control system: Ensure data reliability through blank tests, standard curves and repeated measurements.
  4. Train technicians: Focus on cultivating sample preparation, instrument operation and data analysis capabilities to improve the overall detection level.
