Introduction
GB/T1452—2018: In-depth interpretation of the test method for the horizontal tensile strength of sandwich structures
This standard specifies the terms and definitions, test principles, test equipment, specimen requirements and test steps for the horizontal tensile strength of sandwich structures, and is applicable to the determination of the horizontal tensile strength of sandwich structures. This article will provide you with a detailed interpretation from four aspects: standard background, technical evolution, implementation points and application cases.
1. Background of standard formulation
GB/T1452—2018 is a comprehensive revision of GB/T1452—2005, mainly focusing on the technical update of the test method for the horizontal tensile strength of sandwich structures. With the development of composite material technology, especially the popularization of core materials such as honeycomb core materials and balsa wood, the original standards can no longer meet the needs of modern engineering.
2. Evolution of Standard Technology
| Technical Requirements | GB/T1452—2005 | GB/T1452—2018 |
|---|---|---|
| Definition Update | Retain the definition of “honeycomb core” | Delete the definition of “honeycomb core”, and modify the definition of “debonding” |
| Test Principle | The description of panel failure is not clear | The description of “panel failure” is added |
| Fixture Requirements | Use a tensile fixture with a universal joint | It is recommended to use a tensile fixture with automatic centering function. |
3. Key points for standard implementation
Specimen preparation requirements
- The shape of the specimen is square or round, and the thickness is consistent with the sandwich structure product.
- The core material thickness is $15~\mathrm{mm}$, and the panel thickness is $0.3\mathrm{mm}{\sim}1.0\mathrm{mm}$.
- The parallelism tolerance of the two panel surfaces of the specimen is $0.10~\mathrm{mm}$.
4. Application case analysis
An aviation composite material company adopted this standard to conduct flat tensile strength test on balsa wood core sandwich structure. The test results show that the use of a tensile fixture with an automatic centering function can significantly improve the test accuracy, and the main failure modes of the specimens are panel delamination failure and core tensile failure.
5. Implementation Suggestions
- Equipment selection: Preferentially use a tensile fixture with an automatic centering function to ensure that the center axis of the specimen is aligned
- Material preparation: Strictly control the dimensional tolerance and parallelism of the specimen to avoid the splicing line being located at the edge of the specimen
- Data processing: Pay attention to distinguishing different failure modes, and the lattice honeycomb core material needs to calculate the flat tensile strength
