Introduction
Interpretation of Part 5 of GB/T14571.5-2016 Test method for industrial ethylene glycol
This standard specifies the method for determining the chloride ion content in industrial ethylene glycol using ion chromatography, which is applicable to chloride ion detection in the concentration range of 0.01 mg/kg ~1.0 mg/kg.
| Standard Name | Determination Object | Scope of Application | Detection Method |
|---|---|---|---|
| GB/T14571.5-2016 | Industrial Ethylene Glycol | Determination of Chloride Ion Content | Ion Chromatography |
| GB/T14571.1-2016 | Industrial Ethylene Glycol | Determination of Acidity | Titration |
Method Overview and Key Points
Ion chromatography is used. Sodium carbonate/sodium bicarbonate or potassium hydroxide solution is delivered as eluent through an eluent pump. Chloride ions and other anions are separated by an anion exchange column and detected by a conductivity detector.
Requirements for Reagents and Instruments
- Water:GB/T6682 Grade 1 water, degassed.
- Sodium chloride:Working reference grade, used to prepare standard stock solution.
- Potassium hydroxide:Ultra-pure, used to prepare eluent.
- Ion chromatograph: includes eluent pump, six-way valve, sample quantitative loop, suppressor and conductivity detector and other key components.
Analysis steps in detail
According to the standard requirements, first prepare the standard curve and use the prepared chloride ion standard stock solution to configure the concentration gradient. Then, measure the sample under the same test conditions and calculate the chloride ion concentration by the peak area.
Precision and Quality Control
| Chloride ion content (mg/kg) | Repeatability limit (r, mg/kg) | Reproducibility limit (R, mg/kg) |
|---|---|---|
| 0.01 ≤ X < 0.1 | 0.01 | 0.02 |
| 0.1 ≤ X ≤ 1.0 | 0.03 | 0.05 |
Implementation Suggestions
In actual operation, reagent preparation, instrument calibration and sample pretreatment should be carried out strictly in accordance with standard requirements. At the same time, quality control samples should be used regularly to verify the accuracy of experimental results, and detailed records should be kept.
