This standard specifies the terminology, classification, technical requirements and test methods of urea-formaldehyde, phenol-formaldehyde and melamine-formaldehyde resins in the wood industry, and is applicable to synthetic resins for adhesives and impregnation of wood materials.

Explanation of professional terms

Urea Formaldehyde Resin: Made by the polycondensation of urea and formaldehyde, widely used in wood gluing.

Phenol Formaldehyde Resin: Made by the polycondensation of phenols and formaldehyde, commonly used as adhesive in high humidity environments.
