Introduction
Background and significance of standard revision
This revision is the third revision of GB/T 15180 since its release in 1994, reflecting the latest requirements for the development of heavy traffic road petroleum asphalt technology in my country. With the increase in the density of expressway networks and the rising proportion of heavy vehicles, the original 2010 version of the standard can no longer fully meet the needs of modern traffic loads.

The new standard divides heavy traffic road petroleum asphalt into 6 grades:
- AH-170: penetration 140-200 (1/10mm)
- AH-50: penetration 40-60 (1/10mm)

According to the requirements of the new standard, it is recommended to pay attention to the following in engineering applications:
- Grade selection: AH-170 is suitable for low-temperature areas, and AH-50 is suitable for heavy-load high-temperature areas
- Quality control: Focus on the penetration ratio and elongation retention rate after the film oven test
- Inspection frequency: According to the batch rule of 6.2, each tank/kettle must undergo a full set of index tests
Typical application cases
In the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway reconstruction and expansion project, AH-70 heavy traffic asphalt was used in conjunction with the film oven quality control required by the new standard, and the service life of the pavement was increased by about 15%.
